What is Patent Gold Leaf?

Patent gold leaf, also called transfer leaf, is gold leaf pre-mounted to tissue paper using a pressure process. Each leaf sits between thin rouged paper, allowing you to remove one leaf at a time without disturbing others. The tissue backing remains attached until you press the leaf onto your prepared surface.

Best Uses

Patent leaf excels for outdoor applications and challenging conditions where loose leaf would be difficult to manage. It's ideal for flat surfaces but not recommended for water gilding techniques.

Storage & Care

Patent leaf is sensitive to temperature and humidity fluctuations. Store in a damp environment at approximately 80% humidity, wrapped in plastic wrap, to maintain the tissue paper's moisture content. If leaf becomes loose from dry storage, remount by storing in a humid environment under pressure. If leaf adheres too tightly after hot, humid storage, place in a refrigerator or cool, dry location to loosen it.
