What is Patent Gold Leaf?

Patent gold leaf, also called transfer leaf, features gold mounted to special tissue paper via a pressure process. Unlike loose leaf, patent leaf stays adhered to the tissue backing, allowing you to remove one leaf at a time without a gilder's tip. The tissue protects the delicate gold until you press it onto your prepared surface.

Best Uses

Patent leaf excels for outdoor applications and challenging conditions where loose leaf would be unmanageable. It works best on flat surfaces and is not suitable for water gilding techniques.

Storage & Care

Patent leaf is sensitive to temperature and humidity fluctuations. Store in a damp environment at approximately 80% humidity, wrapped in plastic wrap, to maintain the tissue paper's moisture content. If leaf becomes loose in dry conditions, store under pressure in a humid environment to remount. If over-adhered from heat and humidity, refrigerate or store in a cool, dry place to restore workability.
