BOLE — Clay for Gilding
Essential burnish clay for traditional water gilding with gold and silver leaf. Applied in thin, layered coats over gesso or primed surfaces, clay bole creates the smooth foundation that allows water-gilded metals to achieve a mirror-gloss polish.
Supplied as dry powder. Reconstitute by mixing with water to form a smooth paste, then blend in warm hide glue—traditionally rabbit skin glue—to create the brushable bole used in authentic water gilding techniques.
